I know. I know. Here I go perpetuating the country’s greatest misperception in pronunciation of recent years. If you’re all about the hygge movement, please don’t bail on me now. I can explain. If, however, you have no inkling what I’m talking about, stay tuned. We’re about to dive deep into, perhaps, the greatest gift the Danes have ever bestowed on humankind. But, about that title. I’d wager that 100% of all Americans, upon seeing the word hygge in print the first time, call it higgie, like a little piggy. In reality, it should sound more like the Raffi children’s song about the baby whale, Beluga. Welcome to hygge (HOO guh), the coziest home décor concept around. For this installment, you’re going to need a few things so that we can commiserate comfortably: a warm, cozy beverage (hot tea, perhaps), a candle burning close-by, nature sounds playing in the background (optional), a throw blanket to place across your lap, and soft socks – it’s all about the soft socks.
