The Crandall Pirates cheer squad made the finals of the UIL Spirit State Championship for the fifth consecutive year – the amount of time that competition at the state level has existed.
The UIL defines spirit as an extracurricular activity that focuses on the traditional game day role cheerleaders have on the sidelines and in schools supporting athletic teams. Schools compete in four different categories: band chant, situational element, crowd leading and fight song.
The Pirates walked into the Fort Worth Convention Center this past weekend confident and ready to compete after already winning a bronze medal in 2019 and a state championship in 2018. The Pirates were one of eighty-three teams in the largest division, 4A, competing for the top spot. Crandall placed first overall in the preliminary round; they also took the state champ title for band chant and fight song. The Pirates advanced to the finals with nineteen other teams to compete for the spirit state championship.
