The holidays bring a degree of stress and anxiety to everyone, even those who love the chaos, clutter and cooking between Thanksgiving and New Year’s Day. But for some families, the added stress of the holidays can be almost unbearable. For parents of children who have additional needs, the added work and expectations of the holidays can add to their already overloaded plates, rendering the mere thought of venturing out to a holiday party or family gathering loathsome.

Parents of higher maintenance children such as, (but not limited to) those with trying behaviors, developmental delays, Autism or mental illness often miss out on social events to avoid hours of preparation, changes in schedules, overload meltdowns, the well-intended comments or the stinging judgment of others.
