During the past month, at least three times someone has engaged me with a discussion of Hayden Fry, wanting to know if I remembered him and what I thought about him. Well, here are some things I think I remember!
A few years back, when I was a boy growing up in Forney, my Dad was very involved in the athletic uniform industry and knew quite a few people involved with high school, college, and professional sportsplayers, coaches, and businessmen. And he enjoyed attending area sporting events. One team he followed and took me along with him when he attended their games was Southern Methodist University. And two of the first names I learned and still remember are Coach “Doc” Hayes and Coach Hayden Fry, basketball and football respectively.
Coach Hayes has been “gone” for quite some time, but Coach Fry died (after a tough battle with cancer) December 17, 2019, at the age of 90 years.
