On Monday, October 7, the City of Crandall made a significant move in the ongoing battle against bullying. A monumental decision in the State of Texas, Crandall’s City Council passed an ordinance making it a misdemeanor, punishable by a fine of up to $500 per offense, for individuals involved in bullying or harassment. The ordinance lays out specific definitions for “bullying”, “to bully”, and “harassment”, therefore avoiding any confusion on what constitutes a violation.

The purposes behind this new legislation are plentiful, but the text of the ordinance itself highlights the facts that the City Council acknowledges the seriousness of bullying and its occurrences within the City and, in turn, wants to “assure that every person is valued and respected regardless of perceived differences”.
