Time and technology have had a profound effect on priorities in the field of education. Reading, writing, arithmetic and science seem to have remained high on the list of priorities, though in some places, certain components of writing may be a slippery slope to oblivion.

One element of writing that has clearly taken a hit is cursive writing. In some districts, cursive writing has long been a thing of the past. Many educators and non-educators bemoan the elimination of cursive writing in school curriculums. In addition, there seems to be a generation of writers who can neither read nor write in cursive.
