On Tuesday, April 16, residents of the City of Forney and Kaufman County at large were shocked to find the Appraisal District’s newly posted real estate values for 2019. Many property owners saw an extraordinary increase in the appraised value of their real estate in the county.
Property owners who feel that the appraised value of their property is possibly inaccurate or that exemptions were not correctly accounted for, among other things, have the option to appeal the actions of the Kaufman County Appraisal District. Those who would like to dispute a tax appraisal should expect to prepare a protest. Required forms and information on how to prepare a protest can be found through the Office of the State Comptroller. The Comptroller’s website is a helpful resource for those beginning this process.
