The idea that the rich, powerful and influential can buy their way into elite universities or anywhere else should not be a surprise to most people. The recent University admission scandal that has taken over the evening news has probably enlightened all the hold outs that believed cheating to get into a top school was not possible.
According to information taken from the Cable News Network (CNN) website, about 50 wealthy families have been caught in a web of lies and cheating to get their children into some of the most elite universities in America. Families paid as much as 2.5 million dollars to ensure their children were admitted into one of a handful of schools which may or may not have been aware of the fraudulent admissions.
What bewilders me is the idea that schools are not sure how they are going to handle the fraudulent admissions. I expect they will be handled on a caseby-case basis as has been stated on the news, but I wonder what outcome other than expulsion there can be. Some schools are looking at whether the students were minors when the fraud occurred. That suggests that there may be some consideration given there as it relates to disposition of each fraudulent admission. I certainly hope I am wrong.
