Part Two
Last week I promised to come back this week with a continuation of the “nostalgic” traditions of basketball years ago in Forney High School. We are now about to open the doors to 1949 & 1950 (the year I was born). The photos are not quite as sharp nor the names under them quite as detailed as in 1947 & 1948, but I think most of you will at least enjoy looking at the pictures!
You will probably notice that the uniform shorts for both boys and girls were pretty skimpy (very by today’s standards of almost “pedal pusher” lengths) and that the shorts had belts. The photos also show the wooden stands, “wireprotected” windows, and wooden backboards. Some of the players that I have later known or at least heard about are Jimmy Smith, Dickie King, Bobby Boone, Tommy Jones, Young Powell, Edward Nichols, and a big/tall guy named Jimmy Garrett, who was a “starter” as a sophomore.
