Originally slated to start at 7:30pm, the 2018 Unity Bowl, the annual match between cross-town rivals, Forney and North Forney, was delayed by lightning last Friday night. And, despite being outgained 512 yards to 381, it was Forney that caught lightning in a bottle, battling back from a 15-point 4th quarter deficit to defeat the Falcons and the claim their 6th win in the 7 meetings between the two Forney ISD high schools.
Unlike the previous six games, this Unity Bowl was a nail-biter. Like a heavyweight title fight that goes 15 rounds, this one wasn’t over until, with three seconds left in the game, Forney delivered the knockout blow, when Jaylin Smith’s pass was intercepted in the end zone. That play sealed Forney’s 39-35 comeback win.
