While marriages were traditionally seen as a way to consolidate wealth, they are now used as an excuse to squander it. What was once a solemn religious ceremony has devolved into a huge party, sometimes held at “destinations” where most people could never afford to vacation, much less fly in and out to attend a wedding.
With layer, upon layer of “tradition” applied, the costs for the ceremony have ballooned to incorporate interior decorating complete with flowers and lighting, costumes, entertainment, meals and gift bags. Every (often feuding) family member must be properly included, attired and placated to make the day perfect.
