Dorothy Evelyn Criswell, longtime resident of Forney, passed away surrounded by her family on the evening of August 3, 2018. Dorothy was born July 13, 1922 in Malone, Texas to Henry and Una Bell Sanderson, both of whom preceded her in death along with her husband, Thomas R. Criswell, her daughter, Karen Criswell and son-in-law, Thomas J.Texada, III. As a young girl, Dorothy moved to Forney and graduated from Forney High School. She felt privileged to be a part of such a close-knit community and having lived in Forney for over 8 decades, she saw many changes in the community. Dorothy was a member of First United Methodist Church of Forney for over 80 years and her talent for cooking and baking was well known in church and the surrounding area. She had a special talent for making everyone she met feel welcome and important. Her special brand of humor and wit kept a smile on the face of everyone who met her. She had a heart for serving her Lord and she was active with the American Legion Ladies Auxiliary in Forney where her joyous personality was a welcome sight for other volunteers and members. A well-known and very loved woman, Dorothy will be missed by her family, friends, church family and the many others whose lives she touched with her generosity and love. Dorothy leaves to cherish her memory her daughters: Carolyn Texada of Houston and Linda Foss of Kingwood; grandchildren: Dana Rouvaldt and husband, Micky, of Forney, Thomas Czarowitz and wife, Jennifer, of Jasper, GA, Amanda Mancuso and husband Jeremy of Kingwood, Jeffrey Foss of Houston, special friend, Kelle Czarowitz of Deer Park; great grandchildren: Kyle Rouvaldt and wife, Cara, Brian Rouvaldt, Chole Czarowitz; great-great grandchildren: Kirby and Charlie Rouvaldt as well as nieces, nephews, extended family and a host of friends. Funeral service for Dorothy were held at 2:00 pm, Friday, August 10, 2018 at First United Methodist Church in Forney with family receiving friends beginning at 1:00 pm, prior to service, all under the direction of Max Slayton Funerals and Cremations. Interment followed at Hillcrest Cemetery.
