Meals on Wheels needs community support to aid in unprecedented demand

KAUFMAN COUNTY, Texas — The summer heat has been especially tough on Kaufman county senior citizens this year. The overwhelming demand for Meals on Wheels and congregate meals has continued to grow recently, while financial support has not according to officials.

Senior Connect, the local agency that oversees the county’s Meals on Wheels and other senior programs, is now having to put residents on waiting lists because they cannot afford to serve everyone.
