Katie Turner from Forney High School was selected to participate as a citizen of American Legion Auxiliary Texas Bluebonnet Girls State for 2018 at Texas Lutheran University, Sequin, Texas. She was sponsored by ALA Unit 591 of Forney. During her week at Girls State, Katie served as Mayor of her City J. Katie is the daughter of Drs. Dan and Rachel Turner. Girls State was organized as a National Americanism activity in 1937 by the American Legion Auxiliary. A mythical 51st state is a learn-by-doing program which introduces city, county and state government to the participants, as well as, involves them in political parties and legislative sessions.
