FLOODS: THE SOON FORGOTTEN DISASTERS

Last week the town of Weslaco in the South Texas Velley, received over a foot of rain in three days as did several surrounding communities. Hundreds of homes flooded and a lot of families had to be rescued by boat from their homes. Neighborhoods remained covered with water for days. The city set up huge pumps but with all of the widespread flooding there was no place for the water to go. The city warned to avoid contact with the water because it contained raw sewage.

I had ordered a truckload of goods from The Churches of Christ Disaster Relief Effort In Nashville, Tennessee. The truck with supplies that were valued at almost $100,000 arrived just before 8:00 Saturday Morning at the Bridge Avenue Church of Christ. Forty to fifty volunteers unloaded the truck before the scheduled time of 10:00 am to begin distribution.
