I want to apologize to Commissioner Terry Barber for getting an important detail in my column this last week wrong. The day my column came out, I received a phone call that something was incorrect. The caller said that CR 346 was surfaced by Former Commissioner Kenneth Schoen, prior to Commissioner Barber’s taking office. I assured the person on the other end of the call, that if I made a mistake that I would correct it. He said: “I know you to be a Christian man and I knew that you would.”
As soon as I hung up, I talked to Commissioner Schoen and he said that approximately three miles of CR 346 was indeed surfaced before he left office. He further explained that all the county paid for was the labor and use of Precinct 3 equipment and fuel. “Trinity Industries donated eleven inches of rock for three miles of road twentyfour feet wide. I think it was worth over $300.000 and was donated to the county. They also paid well over $100,000 for tar, emulsion and gravel to chip seal the road. In all it had to be well over $400,000 that was donated to the County”
