A few weeks ago, my friend Sammy Walker posted a track and field event that seems unbelievable. I get to spend a lot of time with Sammy since we go to church together and so I get to meet a lot of celebrities both minor and major. Sammy was a track star who held several records from high school and college at SMU. He was also an Olympian. He is one of the organizers of the Olympic Alumni Golf Tournament and I play in it every chance I get.
As you can imagine I get to meet a lot of track and field stars and hear a lot of stories. However, this story is remarkable and seems almost impossible if Sammy hadn’t posted the video on Facebook.
For the better part of four minutes you see a track star warming up and trying to get his mind into the fete he is about to attempt. He is a high jumper from Cuba named Javier Sotomayor. For the jump the bar is set at 2.45 Meters or eight feet and onehalf inches.
