District 15-5A has been a very competitive district in 2018. Forney has been near the top all season, only having lost one district game prior to last week. They have been tied with Wylie East, 9-1, most of the season. A big matchup loomed this week with Highland Park, who had also been at the top, with a 7-1 record.
In the first matchup of the week, Thursday at Highland Park, the Scots got the best of the Jackrabbits, to knock Forney down to third place in the District Standings.
Then came Saturday! A huge game for both teams, but even more so for Forney if they wanted to keep District Championship hopes in play. It’s no secret the strength of this Jackrabbit team is the starting pitching. Seniors Jonathan Childress and Mason Englert get a lot of the press, but deservedly so. It’s a team sport to be sure, but pitching stays in the spotlight for obvious reasons. These two young men are used to it and have consistently risen to the occasion over their high school careers.
