As we start a new year I have been thinking about the Washington Irving story about Rip Van Winkle who slept for 25 years and woke up in a new world. It got me thinking about what changes may occur in the next 25 years and contemplate innovations that have come in the last 25 years. In refreshing my memory about the story which was set in the Catskill Mountains of New York in the late 18th Century, I found out an important fact. Washington Irving wrote the story in Birmingham, England and had never been to the Catskills before he penned the story. The setting is a Dutch Village in the foothills when New York was still a Colony in the British Empire.
