“Old” Forney graduates called their college East Texas State Teachers College, while “somewhat old” ones called it East Texas State University. Today, the college is called Texas A&M-Commerce University.
No matter by what name you may know it, the Lions are the 2017 Division II NATIONAL FOOTBALL CHAMPIONS, by way of their 37—27 victory over the highly regarded West Florida Argonauts. A&M-Commerce finished the season with 14 victories and 1 loss, while West Florida ended with a record of 11 wins and 4 losses.
