Because I work in Disaster Relief I see more than my share of destruction and loss in person but I’m able to empathize with victims and keep enough emotional distance to do my job and not let it get to me. So it will probably be no surprise that stories on the new seldom get to me. However killing of Kate Steinle and the verdict last week has me rattled. Probably because the mental picture of her dying in her father’s arms saying “Help me” hits way too close to home. I know from my own experience when your child is killed or severely hurt by someone there is an unspoken duty as a parent to find justice for your child.
