After years of working in Disaster Relief there is one truth at every disaster. No matter how busy you are, often you have to stop what you are doing and listen to a victim’s story. After the events of the last two weeks I find that I have to tell my story about the shooting that occurred in Sutherland Springs. Fortunately for readers you don’t have to listen if you don’t want to. You can just turn the page and I will never know.
Tuesday Lori and I drove down to South Texas to attend the funeral of our friends killed in the shooting at the Sutherland Springs First Baptist Church. When we got to Seguin we decided to take the short detour through Sutherland Springs. FM 549 took us past the spot nearby my Aunt Pat and Uncle Delbert Willeford were killed. They were on a motorcycle heading to Seguin to rent a movie when a drunk driver crossed the line on a curve and hit them head on. Just a short distance away is where the chase ended Sunday before last, after their son Stephen shot the Church Killer and gave chase.
