ETJ negotiations fail as Mesquite moves to annex land adjacent to Forney

FORNEY, Texas — Extra-territorial jurisdiction (ETJ) negotiations have failed between the City of Forney and the City of Mesquite as the latter moves to annex all the proposed land in a deal it had previously labeled “not equitable.”

In their September 5, 2017, council meeting, the Mesquite City Council voted to approve two resolutions giving written notice of the city’s intent to annex certain properties within its ETJ. On September 18, 2017, the council will consider action setting three public hearings on the proposed annexations — October 16, October 23, and November 6.
