In 2005 Forney rose to the occasion when we had back to back disasters. Most of us were novices at the time but after a decade of experience I have to say that our town did a near textbook job of taking care of evacuees from Katrina and Rita. One lesson we learned is that if you are going to take in used clothes, you better have an army of volunteers to wash, fold and sort. We acquired a mountain of clothes that almost completely filled the old high school gym and my hat is off to the First Baptist Church and others, who took on the task with dedication. Most people never saw all of the work that went into tackling that job. I often refer to that endeavor when I beg Churches not to accept used clothes. In other words, to look a gift horse in the mouth.
