From 15 to 20 people were present Monday night for the first Citizens On Patrol (COPS) introductory training session since FPD graduated its first Citizens Police Academy class in late May. The session was held in a conference room at the Forney Police Department from 6:00 p. m. to 9:00 p. m.

Trainees consisted of current COPS volunteers and individuals interested in enrolling in the civilian program. COPS are citizen volunteers allied with the Forney Police Department who patrol various Forney neighborhoods. They do a lot of the things police do, but they can’t make arrests or detsain suspects or otherwise engage with suspects. Their job is to call the dispatch center at FPD if they see any suspicious behavior and let Forney police take the situation from there.
