Body

Joe Louis Stewart, Jr. (Assistant Principal at Forney High) and Vivian Hood Themer (Assistant Principal at Blackburn Elementary) have both now officially retired from Forney ISD and are moving ahead to other pursuits. As I walked through the Administration Building front area the other day and looked at the photos on the walls and saw the lockers that I once used when the building was Forney High School, I remembered the words of Mr. Holland, Superintendent of FISD during the uphill climb back to financial security. They went something like the following: “We don’t get rid of or forget the past; we build upon it to make an even greater today and tomorrow.” (Mr. Holland had been responsible for restoring the “missing class photos,” Spellman painting, and other items from the past to the walls and displays there at the Administration Building.) And how does this relate to the two retirees? Well, most certainly they both exemplify Mr. Holland’s words, for they are representatives/ descendants of Forney’s history and vital parts of its growth and plans for the future.
