Clyde Clifton “Tink” Whittemore was born on December 25, 1920 and passed away on May 22, 2017. Clyde is preceded in death by his wife of 25 years, Zelda Whittemore; parents: Clarence and Jennie Whittemore and brothers, Jim and Perry Whittemore. Clyde is survived by his children: Mary Simpson Gray and husband Chris, Gary Whittemore, Marcia Whittemore; grandchildren: Wes Simpson and wife Tammy, Jamie Simpson, Candice Gray, Megan Gray, Lea Rhea Dimas and husband Sherwin, Ves Whittemore and wife Amy, Kelli Williams and husband Danny, Jason Hess and wife Amanda, Charles Liverman and wife Kim, Julie Lane and husband Bobby; 17 greatgrandchildren; 6 great-great grandchildren; special person, Rhoda Whitcomb and his favorite Carolyn Cranor. Graveside Service was Thursday, May 25, 2017 at Hillcrest Cemetery in Forney, Texas, and continued at the Family Life Center of the First United Methodist Church. Officiating were Dr. Pat Whittemore and Rev. Jerry Griffin Clyde grew up on the family farm near Forney, Texas and graduated from Forney High School in 1938. He attended Tarleton Junior College on a football scholarship. He also received a football scholarship from East Texas State Teachers’ College and graduated from there in 1943. He was also commissioned in the U.S. Navy in 1943, where he served in the Pacific Theater during World War II and received his honorable discharge in 1946 as an Ensign. He always felt his service was one of his best accomplishments. Upon his discharge he went with his young family back to the farm. He loved the land and especially took pride in his alfalfa hay and won several ribbons over a number of years for producing the best alfalfa in Kaufman County. Clyde was a good friend, willing to help others. He lived his life quietly, but had an impact on other people and never wanted recognition.
