Ann Warren Greer McKellar Kidd, age 86 of Tyler, Texas peacefully passed away at her home under the care of Hospice of East Texas and her caregiver Christine Robinson on Wednesday, May 17, 2017. Ann was born on July 20, 1930 in San Antonio, Texas, the oldest of three children born to Thomas Dickson Greer and Nell Warren Greer. Ann’s father worked for National Cash Register company which required the family to move frequently during her youth. Despite this, Ann made lifelong friends where she went, spending summers at Camp Waldemar where she was an Aztec. She particularly loved Rockport Texas where she spent nearly every Fourth of July of her life celebrating with her extended family and friends. She loved sharing her memories of the beach, firework celebrations, the Art show in Rockport, crabbing and shell painting. Ann’s love and fearlessness in travel brought her to visit 7 continents in her lifetime including Antarctica. She graduated from Highland Park High School in Dallas, Texas, attended a year at Mary Baldwin College for women in Staunton, Virginia before returning to the University of Texas in Austin  where she graduated with a degree in education. It was at UT that she met the love of her life and first husband Richard (Dick) Guyton McKellar. Ann and Dick made their home in Tyler following their marriage in 1952. Ann was actively involved in her community with Pi Beta Phi Sorority Alumnae club, Junior League of Tyler, Women’s Symphony League, Tyler Junior Garden Club, and Smith County Historical Society. She was a wonderful planner and party giver and brought style and class to every organization that she joined. Her most cherished role was as a loving wife, mother, sister, aunt, and grandmother. “Annie” was everyone’s best friend. Ann survived widowhood bravely with 2 young sons in 1968 and in 2011 with the death of her second husband, Lee Kidd. She selflessly cared for both her parents in their later years, lessons from which we all took note. Ann still has the Bible she received at age 7 inscribed with “Trusting your life will be useful and filled with joy that never ends”. By her own admission, she was rather quiet and private about her faith, though she was certain about her future after this life. She put her faith in God and felt He had created her for a purpose. As her health declined, she turned her loss of function and independence into a blessing, as Gloria Yancy became a true friend and confidant. We are grateful that she was able to stay in her beloved home due to the diligent care of both Gloria Yancy and Christine Robinson, two ladies bestowed with special love by God. Ann was predeceased by her parents and her two husbands. Her surviving family includes: sister Eleanor Greer Drake and her children David and Dana Drake of Dallas, Texas, brother Thomas D. Greer, Jr. and wife Liff and their children Thomas Greer III and Beau Greer of Houston, Texas, her two sons: Thomas Guyton McKellar and wife Marilyn of Tyler, Texas and Richard Greer McKellar and wife Heidi of Dallas, Texas; Lex Kidd (deceased) and wife Holly, Trant Kidd and wife Tiffany, Kim Kidd Maddox and husband Tim. Grandchildren include: Kathryn McKellar, Sarah- Ann McKellar, Mary Guyton McKellar, Thomas Dickson McKellar, Graem McKellar, Olivia Dugan and Joshua Dugan, Steven Freeman II, Kristopher Freeman, and Kurtis Freeman; Karson Kidd, Kelsey Eiche, Kalum Kidd, Levi Kidd and Reed Crenshaw, Elizabeth and Cameron Kidd and Lily Hammer, Thomas Fuller and wife Sandy, Patrick Fuller and Kathryn Maddox.
