Fire Department to Lead Donation Effort for Tornado Victims

The Forney Fire Department will immediately begin accepting donations at the Central Fire Station, 104 E. Aimee St., for the victims of this past weekend’s tornadoes in Van Zandt County. While the FFD will be glad to accept any donations from residents, we have received word from first responders in the Canton-area that clean-up items are desperately needed. Items that are being requested include tarps, rakes, shovels, gloves, wheel barrows, and any other essential clean-up items. If they wish, residents may also make cash donations to the Red Cross and Salvation Army. The First State Bank in Ben Wheeler has opened a relief fund, Van Zandt Tornado Relief 2017, to which people can also make donations too. Donations to the relief fund may be made over the phone by calling 903.833.5861 or by mail through P.O. Box 97 Ben Wheeler, TX 75754. Volunteers are also being requested to either help with the clean-up effort or donate time at the Recovery Center located at the Van Zandt County Fairgrounds, 24742 SH 64 Canton, TX.
