Last Sunday I headed to East Texas to assess the damage from tornados in Eustace, Canton, Fruitvale, Grand Saline and Emory. I first headed to Canton and found that all of the traffic lights were out because of the power outage. I arrived at the church building about the time services were supposed to start but I found the parking lot empty.
Worship had obviously been cancelled because the electricity was out. So without hesitation I headed to Fruitvale where I quickly found the path of destruction right through town. It didn’t take me long to find the church building and although the electricity was out there too, the parking lot was full. I walked inside just as they were finishing communion and they graciously served me in the back room.
