It was Spring Break 1976 and I had fallen in love with a beautiful California girl my first week of college at Abilene Christian College. For months we had planned to go to her home in San Diego to meet her family and for me it was a chance to see things that a boy from South Texas could only dream about.

Every time the song “Dreams” by Fleetwod Mac comes on the radio, I remember hearing it on KGB on the winding drive down out of the mountains West of Julian, California into the eastern suburbs of San Diego, California. That was also the first time I heard the iconic radio station. The KGB mascot was a giant chicken.
