Psychology has always straddled an uncomfortable position somewhere between the “hard sciences” and the “liberal arts”. On the science side, as much as the brain imagers try, they still haven’t been able to pin down an area of the brain responsible for any given thought pattern. And as hard as the gene splicers try, they still haven’t isolated a “depression gene”. (Despite what you might have read in the popular press.) None of the “scientific” studies are ever conclusive and just seem to raise more questions than they answer.
