Forney Velocity Track and Field Team Headed to State Meet
The Forney Velocity track & field team recently competed in the Texas Amateur Athletic Federation regional meet held in Commerce, TX with great success. Ten members of the team qualified for the state meet to be held in College Station on July 25-28th. Forney Velocity is an independent summer track & field team that competes throughout the summer at various track meets in the Dallas Metroplex area.
Head Coach Fred Alexander has been a long-time fixture in the track & field world and has devoted countless hours to the team, offering advice and encouragement to each and every team member. His passion for the sport and for the kids has impacted many young athletes in the Forney area for years. Supporting Coach Fred are distance coaches Major McGill and Michael Reed. Their commitment and ability to train and develop the team produced awesome results this season. Nine team members qualified in mid and long-distance races for the state meet. Coach Reed says “These kids showed up to practice ready to put in hard work every day and were determined to be better than they were the day before. They pushed each other and supported one another on and off the track. This is a good group of kids and I’m happy to have had the opportunity to coach them this season.” Showing the foundation of their character and how the coaches go about inspiring and leading the kids, Coach McGill added “Proverbs 3:5-6, Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge Him, and He will make straight your paths.” This level of leadership by the coaches serves as a great influence on the athletes and is deeply appreciated by their families.
