Forney Varsity Baseball Sweeps Poteet in Dramatic Fashion!

With a perfect game, a walk off win, and a sweep over Poteet, Varsity Jackrabbits remain undefeated in district. Austin Ream took the mound Tuesday, April 2nd to lead the Forney Jackrabbits to a 6 – 0 victory against the Poteet Pirates. To say the least, Ream had an impressive outing. He lasted seven innings, facing 21 batters, allowing zero hits, zero runs, zero walks, and striking out eleven. Ream’s outstanding performance earned him the SportsDayHS Player of the Week. Ream’s perfect game was matched by the Jackrabbit defense who did not commit a single error. Sean Stephens and Tyler Dickey each made an impressive stop to help seal the win. In the first inning, Nate Fitzgerald kicked off the offense with a one run single. Will Morgan, Brenden Williams, Sean Stephens, Justin McMahan, Fitzgerald, and Campbell Anderson all had one hit to lead the Varsity to Victory.

After an impressive win on Tuesday, Forney was looking for the sweep on Friday, April 5th. The home crowd was in for a great defensive battle, and after five extra innings Brenden Williams knocked in the winning run on a walk-off double. Cesar Eguia started on the mound for the Jackrabbits, and was quick to do away the top of the line-up. Forney got the scoring started when Tyler Dickey scored on a ground ball by Nate Fitzgerald. Poteet came back in the second scoring three runs, then added two more in the third. In the bottom of the third, the Dickey – Fitzgerald combo worked again scoring a run for Forney. After a line drive to center field that led to a triple, Riley McMurren threw to the short stop Dickey who threw to catcher Landon Ervin to get the runner out trying to advance home from third, resulting in a scoreless fourth inning from both teams.
