Former head basketball coach, SAM WALKER, honored at 11/21/17 Texas A&M-Commerce vs. Oklahoma City Stars game
When Craig Power and Will Themer were beginning their Forney High School basketball careers, they picked up a head start on things by attending a summer basketball camp at East Texas State University, and Sam Walker, an assistant coach at that time, was one of the main instructors, along with Roger Brown. Paul Peak was head coach.
The main reason the boys attended this camp was that dads, Harry Power and Don Themer, E. T. S. U. graduates, had continued to be Lions sports followers, and especially basketball devotees, so they knew something about the coaches there.
As time passed, Walker became the head coach (2000) and remained so for 19 seasons, becoming the winningest basketball coach in Lions history.
