FHS Softball Girls Get FRISKY Against 9-5A Frisco Reedy!! For a few agonizingly long brief moments, “Finals” not important!
Friday evening, May 24, at Wylie High School Pirate Field, the Forney Jackrabbit “Softballers” used a strong 2nd inning to set the tone for the rest of the game as they defeated Frisco Reedy, 11—1 (“run rule”), to advance to the State Finals in Austin.
However, in the middle of the game with the score at 6—1 in Forney’s favor, the Frisco pitcher was struck in the head by a powerful line drive and fell hard to the surface of the mound. All of a sudden, softball ceased to be important, and the health of a valiant opponent was on the minds of everyoneand as I sent my prayers to God, I looked around and could see many others with closed eyes doing the same! With deafening silence, the crowd waited as the team trainers, coaches, officials, and police officers attended to the, viewed from where we sat, motionless young lady for what seemed to be an “eternity.”
And then, applause and cheers as she visibly moved, sat up with help, and then finally was able to walk off the field with assistance and to even stronger cheers! During the game, I overheard our coach say that the pitcher had been hit above the eye, not on it, and the swelling was pretty extensive—but that she appeared to be doing much better than most of us had feared. By the time you read this article, I imagine everyone will know how she is doing. After the game, it appeared to me that many of the Frisco and Forney girls had joined in more prayers in the midst of their “afterthe-game handshakes.”
