ALL AND HUNTING JUST AROUND THE CORNER
Like everyone else, I’ve attempted to beat the heat this past week and take a cue from the wild animals; venture out early and late and seek shade and AC when possible during the heat of the day. But it won’t be very long until the leaves will begin to change into their autumn colors, the whitetail bucks will go into rut and waterfowl will begin to pour into our area from the northern climes where they spent their summer.
In a matter of days, many of us will break out our shotguns and head to our favorite dove field in hopes of collecting enough dove breast for a celebratory evening meal at camp of grilled dove breast with jalapeno, wrapped in bacon. Through the years, this has become the standard noon time or evening meal for the opener days of dove season.
The opening of hunting seasons is as eagerly anticipated for many of us older hunters as Christmas was when we were youngsters. I had the privilege of spending a few days this past week with my long time friend Larry Weishuhn AKA. “Mr. Whitetail”. Larry’s love for hunting is contagious and we spent a lot of time with great friends contemplating the upcoming season but Larry also loves to fish. Our plans were to enjoy a bit of catfishing and stock up our freezers with great tasting catfish fillets.
