Lewis Clifton Pierce, Jr.
Services for Lewis Clifton Pierce, Jr. of Forney, TX, were held 2 pm Wednesday, October 20, 2021, at Eubank Funeral Home in Canton with Pastor Jeff Garrett officiating. Interment was held in Haven of Memories. Visitation preceeded the service at 1 pm.
Lewis passed away October 17, 2021. He was preceded in death by his parents, Lewis Clifton Pierce, Sr. and Lucy Viola Wells Pierce; sisters, Emma Edwina Pierce Elliott, Eunice Pierce Roig (Rodney), Sue Carol Pierce Gunn; brother, Ernest Calvin Pierce, Sr. (Jane). He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Carol Gammill Pierce and children, Jennifer Pierce and Frank Pierce and a host of nieces and nephews.
Lewis was born in Kreole, MS, on October 29, 1937, and upon graduation from Moss Point, MS, high school joined the Army, serving in Germany for 3 years. He moved to Dallas, TX, upon his discharge from the Army to attend electronics trade school. Upon his completion of electronics school, he attended college at night and weekends at Eastfield Community College, University Texas Arlington and Southern Methodist University to work on a degree in History and Government, lacking only 20 hours to attain the degree. He learned the machinist trade and worked building patterns for the oil well industry for several years, programming machines to build parts for the oil industry. Later in his career he worked for E-Sys-tems as a Facilities Manager, eventually retiring from the U.S. District Court of North Texas in 2000.
He was a loving father and husband, coached and attended both Jennifer’s and Frank’s baseball games; attended and supported his children during their various band competitions during their high school years. He was very proud of his children’s successful completion of their college educations without incurring any student debt. He was also very proud of all of his nieces’ and nephews’ accomplishments and loved kidding with them and being the “fun” uncle.
He was a member of the United Methodist Church, Forney, TX, and taught Sunday school to the junior-high age group; helped sponsor various ski trips; involved in the Care Bears free shot clinic for 10 years, serving food to the nurses and other volunteers; cleaning the church sanctuary, working in the flower beds and trimming hedges. Lewis was very interested in genealogy and traced numerous family trees for friends and family. His bee-keeping interest was unusual in the fact that he wasn’t particularly fond of honey though his fatherin-law did especially like it! Lewis knew how interesting bees are and how much good they accomplish for our country. Lewis enjoyed many Ole Miss Rebel football games with his family, whether on the radio or television.
The Pierce family would like to send their love to the Melvin and Sue Schulze family - Yvonne, Becky, Tammy, Paul and Heather, who are lifelong family friends.
